Description

One of the joys of having Shetland sheep on the farm is that they are pretty, delicate looking sheep with a wide variation in colour. Their wool is the finest fibre we have on the farm so it is the most suitable we have for garments for babies and people with sensitive skins.

We have many different colours of Shetland wool, all from the natural fleece colours of our Shetlands; we have a good black, then ranging from the rich brown of the moorit sheep through the more delicate brown shades and silver grey to a creamy white, now an uncommon colour for Shetland sheep.

This fawn is a light soft colour, made from moorit kagmoget fleeces as well as (obviously!) fawn ones. It is an attractive colour alone without any embellishment, or with a simple stripe or border of fairisle. It also works well with other Shetland colours in traditional Norwegian styles, and for Fairisle patterns or in more modern styles (look at the gallery for ideas).

Double Knitting is probably the most all purpose of our yarns. Our Shetland DK gives a robust yarn despite the fineness of the actual fibres. It knits comfortably with plenty of elasticity and give,  and offers plenty of scope for all knitters as well as being an excellent thickness for children to work with.

If you want to be creative with our natural colours to the full, DK is the best thickness of yarn to choose because as well as the many Shetland colours, we have it in Chocolate Black from the Hebrideans, three diffferent colours from the Jacobs and a natural white from the Dorset Downs.
