Description
This is spun using lots of white fleeces mixed with just the few grey fleeces we have and a couple of black ones. Because it is made from wools of different colours mixed together and because it was not blended fully, there is a light and variety in the colour which gives a feeling of life to the yarn. This works well both with simple stitches and lacy patterns (see Leila’s beany in the gallery) and with traditional colour patterns of stars and zigzags using either or both of the the black and white Shetland wools.
Double Knitting is probably the most all purpose of our yarns. Our Shetland DK gives a robust yarn despite the fineness of the actual fibres. It knits comfortably with plenty of elasticity and give and offers plenty of scope for all knitters as well as being an excellent thickness for children to work with.
If you want to be creative with natural colours to the full, DK is the best yarn to choose because as well as the nine Shetland colours, we have it in Chocolate Black (from the Hebrideans) and three different Jacob colours.
