This is made of wool from some of our white Shetlands with a hint of grey from the few grey katmoget Shetlands we have. In the past there will have been more white Shetland than darker ones in the flocks on the islands from which they came but in the south of England now, white Shetlands are less common than the coloured ones and we value them.
This wool makes a lovely lively light coloured yarn with flecks of darker fibre giving a sense of variety and life. It is great for simple garments and for textured knitting using, for example, moss stitch or ribs. It is good for children as it doesn’t show the dirt as much as the ordinary natural white!
