This an interesting off-white from the white Shetlands. In the past there will have been more white Shetland than coloured ones in the flocks on the islands from which they came but in the south of England now, white Shetlands are less common than the coloured ones.
This near-white is made of white fleeces mixed with the few light grey Shetland fleeces we have. The soft grey from these have given a subtle texturing in this yarn, making it very interesting for simple knitting; it doesn’t need or even benefit from fancy lacy stitches or clever colour patterns, being very satisfying in its own right. The variety in the finish makes it a suitable colour for children – a little dirt will not very apparent so they will be able to play without you worrying about the washing.
Double Knitting is probably the most all purpose of our yarns. Our Shetland DK gives a robust yarn despite the fineness of the actual fibres. It knits comfortably with plenty of elasticity and give and offers plenty of scope for all knitters as well as being an excellent thickness for children to work with.
If you want to be creative with natural colours to the full, DK is the best yarn to choose because as well as the nine Shetland colours, we have it in Chocolate Black from the Hebrideans and three different colours from the Jacobs.
