Description

This yarn colour is made by carding then spinning together all the wool from these smartly spotted and patched sheep. There is thus a mix of black, grey and white fibres and together these give it depth of texture and a feel of life. It is a rich grey, working well in a plain stitch or with a simple texture or more complex cables and knots. See Adam’s long socks in the gallery for how it looks with a simple cable. I also like it in stocking stitch with a very simple fairisle pattern in Shetland white near the edge.

Jacob sheep have a fairly fine wool with a good staple length. As a result, the wool need not be spun so tightly. This gives it a very comfortable feel when knitting. Though the wool is more relaxed than the Shetland wool, the individual fibres are slightly thicker.

We also have this colour-batch of wool spun as DK and and a very similar batch spun in the Aran weight yarn.
