Description

This yarn colour is made by selecting the darker coloured wool from these smartly spotted and patched sheep then carding and spinning it separately from the white wool. Unless you do the job to an unnatural level of perfection, this yields an interesting yarn because you will leave some of the lighter fibres in the mix and these give it depth of texture and a feel of life. It is a very dark grey, working well in a plain stitch or with a simple texture or more complex cables and knots. I like it particularly in stocking stitch with a single row or very simple fairisle pattern in Shetland white near the edge. See also the ‘tumbling blocks’ sampler, for which we can supply the pattern.

Jacob sheep have a fairly fine wool with a good staple length. As a result, the wool need not be spun so tightly. This gives it a very comfortable feel when knitting. Though the wool is more relaxed than the Shetland wool, the individual fibres are slightly thicker.

We also have this colour-batch of wool spun as DK and the thicker Aran weight yarns.
