Description
Our Shetland sheep have the finest fleeces and the greatest range of colours of all our sheep. This yarn is soft and relaxed and is a soft brown colour – a pretty mid-brown, the shade of the lightest coloured of our Shetland moorit (the traditional name of a bright brown colour) sheep but actually made with a mixture of richer moorit fleeces and some fawn and white fleeces.
We have this same colour batch in 4ply. (SKU 0027 4ply)
The thicker yarns are good for a beginner as they knit up quickly and are forgiving of repeated unpicking. They are also excellent for textured knitting with cables, ribs and simple overall-textures such as moss stitch.
We also have this thickness of wool in Chocolate Black from the Hebrideans, Cream from the Dorset Downs and both a dark wool we call tweed grey and an off-white called ryemeal from the Jacob sheep. If you want to work with colours, there are therefore plenty of combinations available to you which we think are particularly good for simple patterns, perhaps stripes.
If you want more subtle colours for thicker garments, for shawls or for blankets, consider using two strands of either 4ply or DK of which we have a greater choice of colours. These are equivalent to knitting in Aran and Chunky respectively and is very simple to do. You can use either the same colour or of two different colours, which gives a lovely marl effect.
